In 2026, the average conservatory roof replacement costs between ÂŁ3,200 and ÂŁ6,000. Prices will mainly depend on the size of your conservatory and the material you want to use on your new conservatory roof.
Let's start by narrowing this down based on the size of your conservatory:
From this point, the main factor that impacts conservatory roof replacement costs is the roof material.
Polycarbonate is the most affordable option, but glass remains the most common choice in the UK. Solid conservatory roofs are becoming more popular though, as they have better insulation that makes the space usable all year round.
Here's what you can expect new conservatory roof costs per square metre to be in 2026:
With all this in mind, let's take a look at some conservatory roof replacement cost examples below.
As we've already covered, the size of the conservatory and the roof material are the two main factors that drive replacement conservatory roof costs.
However, these aren't the only factors that can push your quote higher or lower.
The shape and style of your conservatory roof will impact what you should expect to pay for a conservatory roof replacement.
Material costs won't vary much between roof types (assuming they're the same size). However, roofs with more complex shapes and styles will take longer to replace, which increases labour costs.
Here's how quotes vary for a medium-sized conservatory that's 4m x 4m (16m²) with different roof styles.
Changing from a glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof to a solid conservatory roof will cost more than a like-for-like replacement.
For an average conservatory that's around 4m x 4m (16m²), conservatory roof conversion costs would be £1,500 to £3,000 higher than a like-for-like replacement. This means the total cost will be roughly 30% to 40% higher.
Is it possible to put a tiled or solid roof on my uPVC conservatory?
You should expect the labour cost to replace a conservatory roof to make up around 30% to 40% of the total price you're quoted.
A team of 2 people will charge between ÂŁ300 and ÂŁ500 per day, but where you live in the UK will impact the daily rates you're charged:
On the other hand, material costs are quite consistent across the UK for this type of job.
Conservatory roof replacements and conversions generate a lot of waste.
Removing the old conservatory roof and disposing of any waste is typically handled by installers and included in quotes. However, this is important to confirm before hiring anyone for this job.
If you're handling this yourself, you'll have to budget between ÂŁ120 and ÂŁ300 for the cost of hiring a skip. Most homeowners won't need more than a single 4 to 6-yard skip, but you'll want to confirm this ahead of time with the installer.
In most cases, scaffolding isn't required when installing a new conservatory roof. Installers will usually replace the roof using ladders or an access tower they own (at no extra cost).
However, you should confirm this ahead of time when getting quotes. If they assess that scaffolding is required for access, they'll either bundle it into the total price you're quoted or ask you to arrange it seperately.
If you're paying for it yourself, the cost of hiring scaffolding for a conservatory roof replacement will typically be between ÂŁ400 and ÂŁ800.
When you're getting quotes from tradespeople, they'll typically bundle labour and materials together into a single set price.
Let's break down how much of the total cost is labour:
For example: repalcing a 3m x 3m (9m²) glass conservatory roof costs between £2,200 and £3,400. Labour would account for £660 to £1,360 of this total.
In typical cases, UK homeowners should expect a conservatory roof replacement to be completed within 2 days. How long it takes will mainly depend on the size of your conservatory, but the material you want to use also has an effect.
The table below shows what to expect for different sized conservatories (assuming a 2-person team).
Polycarbonate roofs are easier to install, so the installers will finish slightly earlier. On the other hand, solid roofs tend to take a bit longer to finish. This is especially the case if you're converting from a glass or polycarbonate roof, as additional structural work may be required.
Converting from a glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof to a tiled (or solid) roof is an increasingly popular upgrade in the UK.
One strong reason for this is that a solid conservatory roof has much better insulation. A solid roof stabilises the temperature all through the year, so that it's not too hot in summer or too cold in winter.
However, tiled conservatory roof costs will be higher than a glass or polycarbonate roof. You should expect to be quoted between £5,000 and £6,800 for a solid roof on an average-sized conservatory (4m x 4m, or 16m²).
Glass is the traditional choice for a conservatory roof and remains the most common to see in the UK. It's the go-to option when homeowners want to maximise how much natural light is being let into the space (and the room connected to it).
Glass conservatory roof replacement costs land between polycarbonate and solid roof prices. For an average-sized conservatory (4m x 4m, or 16m²), you should expect to pay between £3,200 and £4,800.
Polycarbonate is the most budget-friendly option for a conservatory roof replacement. While it is not as visually appealing as a glass or tiled roof, it's a durable and lightweight material that comes in at a slightly lower price point.
You should expect polycarbonate conservatory roof replacement costs to be between £2,700 and £4,000 for an average-sized conservatory (4m x 4m, or 16m²).
What are the pros and cons of hybrid solid roofs for a conservatory?
If you're only replacing a glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof with the same type of material (i.e., like-for-like), then Building Regulations approval will usually not be required.
However, you will need Building Regulations approval if you're upgrading to a solid conservatory roof from a glass or polycarbonate one. This is because solid roof systems are heavier and have better thermal performance, which triggers a structural review.
This means that the work must be signed off by your local authority or a private building control inspector. When the work is approved, you'll get a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate which is written confirmation that the work is compliant.
Many installers will handle all of this on behalf of the homeowner, but it's something you'll need to confirm when getting quotes. But even if they will handle this for you, be aware that it remains the homeowner's legal responsibility to ensure the work is compliant.
In most cases, you won't need to get planning permission when replacing your conservatory roof. Even if you're converting to a solid conservatory roof, it's not something you'll need unless you're increasing the height or size of the roof.
If you're planning on installing a solid conservatory roof and removing the doors that separate it from the main house, the space will be considered an extension and subject to different rules.
But even in this case, you won't need to worry about planning permission as long as the conservatory space is within permitted development limits.
Even with regular maintenance, no conservatory roof lasts forever.
Glass and polycarbonate conservatory roofs typically start showing problems after 10 to 20 years. Solid conservatory roofs tend to last longer, but you'll likely start to spot issues after around 25 years.

Leaking — If you find water or damp patches inside the conservatory, it's a clear sign that a repair or replacement is needed.
Damp — Damp patches, mould, or a 'musty' smell inside of a conservatory indicate there's poor ventilation or moisture is somehow getting in.
Discoloured, Misted, or Cloudy Panels — These are signs of UV exposure damage, moisture trapped in the panel, or materials approaching the end of their lifespan.
Cracks — If there's any visible damage to the surface of a conservatory roof, it may start to let water slowly seep in.
Slipped Panels — This is a more serious issue that's harder to repair. It usually suggests that there's a problem in the roof's structural frame.
Do they specialise in conservatory roofs? You're ideally looking to hire someone who has 2+ years of experience installing glass, polycarbonate, and/or solid conservatory roofs.
Do they handle building control approval? You'll usually need Building Regulations sign-off when installing a solid conservatory roof. Make sure that you're clear whether they'll manage this for you.
Is waste removal included? Most people will handle this on behalf of the homeowner. However, you should confirm that the removal of the existing roof and all waste disposal is included in the total cost quoted.
Are they insured? It's not a legal requirement, but you'll want to ensure that they have public liability insurance. This covers you in case something goes wrong during the job.
Do they have positive reviews? Check their MyJobQuote profile to find all the feedback they've received from other homeowners.
Do they have examples of similar work? Take a look at photos they've uploaded to their MyJobQuote profile. This will give you an idea of what they're capable of.
Do they offer any guarantee? Good installers won't have any issue standing behind their work and providing some type of warranty (independently or via a scheme).

Over 95% of conservatories installed over the last 25 years have a polycarbonate roof and many conservatory owners have since found that their polycarbonate or glass roofing makes their conservatory unbearable for large chunks of the year. Instead of being a comfortable and relaxing space, a conservatory can become extremely hot at the height of summer or bitterly cold in the winter. Smart Conservatory offers a solution to this widespread problem – an insulated and tiled conservatory roof.
The most effective way to turn your under-used conservatory into an all-year-round living space is our fully insulated roof. Our solid roofs are not just incredibly strong and beautifully finished but most importantly it is the most insulated roof on the market reducing the heat loss by 90%! Smart Conservatory solutions also offer the widest choice of finish options on the market allowing you to match the look of your property, and add value in the process.
Imagine the transformation a new insulated and tiled conservatory roof can deliver for your lifestyle. Now it's warm in winter, cool in summer, so you can use it all year round, No more deafening rain noise, no sun glare, and your conservatory becomes a proper extension to your house, increasing the value of the property and adding a new reception area ready to use when you need it, Your new roof will also add privacy, and reduce time spent on maintenance and cleaning, plus you'll save money on bills, Your new, all-year-round room, can transform the way you use your downstairs living area, and present you with new options. For the kids, they could have the playroom they've been missing, allowing them to be together and connected more to the garden, pulling them away from their screens, and isolation in their own rooms,  For adults you can have the relaxing garden room you had hoped for, or use it as a dining room or even for your kitchen, As a big plus, you also have an entertaining area you can use for events, a Christmas dinner room, pool table/games room, party room, or Lounge, Bar, "It's not just another room. It's a blank canvas for you to paint a new chapter of your life."
Our tiled conservatory roof conversions provide a comprehensive range of great looking options, all designed with maximum flexibility so we can match the style of your home.
Tapco slate – Lightweight, Authentic look of a slate, Fire rated, compliant with building regs, available in 6 standard colours, 40 year manufacturer backed guarantee, no colour loss after years, pitch as low as 14.5°, Quick installation, maintenance free
Britmet tiles – 6 British profiles, up to 7x lighter than the real tiles, Fire rated, compliant with building regs, available in 6 standard colours, 40 year manufacturer backed guarantee, no colour loss after years, pitch 5 - 90°, Quick installation, Maintenance free
A new tiled roof also means you get a new insulated ceiling, which gives your new room that finished look and feel that turns it into a 'proper room'. We offer two great options for this;- fully plastered and UPVC finishes.
Plaster finish - Gives you the look of a proper room, when painted white it reflects light and provides some compensation for loss in light resulting from the new roof..
Upvc finish - Maintenance free, quicker to finish and no need to paint. The white gloss finish reflects light to brighten the room.
Skylights - If you're worried about loosing the natural light in your conservatory then a skylight is the answer. Both fixed or opening skylights allow the natural light to come through brigthening up the room. Electric skylights are also available with remote control and rain sensor. A variety of sizes are available to choose from.
Energy efficient LED downlights - LED downlights are an extremely efficient way to light up the interior and even the exterior of your conservatory. giving it a modern look and an added dimension of style.
Our most common and cost effective way to build our conservatory roof. Our tiled roofs are slightly lighter than glass and therefore 9 out of 10 times we can reuse the existing aluminium frame sometimes saving you thousands of pounds! The roof achieves the same U-value as most tiled roof systems but it’s much more cost effective and quicker to install.
-Regulates temperature so no more extreme hot/cold
-Fully integrates the conservatory into your home and lifestyle
-33% lighter than solid roofs, 4% lighter than your current glass
-Retains existing structure for faster, cheaper installation
-90% of the time, existing glass roof strutting can be reused, reducing costs
If your existing roof frame is too old or not good enough for our first option then Smart Conservatory Solutions offer a bespoke full roof replacement. Thanks to its Timber frame our roof achieves the best available U-Value making it the most Insulated conservatory roof on the market.
-Enables conservatory to be used comfortably all year round
-Adds value to your home while you live in it and for resale
-Customisable internal/external finishes and extras
The last solution we are offering is a pre-made Guardian roof system which is probably to most popular conservatory roof system on the market.
-Provides cooling relief from overheating in summer

Dear Sir, We are writing to thank you for the work on our Conservatory with which we are very satisfied. The two Polish workers who did all the structural work were excellent. They worked, non stop, through heavy rain for two full days to ...
We begin the process by checking your conservatory for external problems or leaks. If any problems are found we will quickly rectify the problem before beginning the insulation process.
A treated timber subframe is installed directly onto the underside of your existing roof beams. Our professional installation technicians all have extensive experience in this process and ensure that every joist is perfectly cut and fitted.
Next, the insulated quilt is added. Made up of 19 unique layers, the quilt covers the entire underside of the conservatory ceiling. The insulation quilt is extremely energy efficient as well as fire resistant and certified.
A second treated timer subframe is installed which will provide the secure fixing for your choice of finish that will form the beautifully crafted internal ceiling.
Our experts will then create your internal ceiling in the finish of your choice. The ceiling will follow the existing height and design of your conservatory to maximise headroom.

We only use the highest performing insulation in the UK, invented by NASA, and the only Fire Certified Insulation available. Watch the Official Fire Test Video below:
We're a family-run business with over 30 years combined experience in the conservatory industry.
Conservatory Roof Insulation Ltd were the first company to offer this product in the UK, previously working with the inventor of the concept. Because of this, our conservatory roof insulation system has been carefully created and approved with the help and guidance of the original inventor, and has since been refined and updated to make it even more effective. The fully insulated roof design achieves U-values as low as approx. 0.17 - roughly 10 times more efficient than an A-rated window, reducing your energy bills. In fact we're so confident of our product quality that we will give all our customers a 10-year guarantee as standard. We also make sure to charge only truly affordable prices - so much so that our product costs almost half the price of ceiling blinds, and what's more, no planning is required on our interior systems.
